Default starting to replace motor mounts

Im starting to replace my motor mounts, I have the front already jacked up, and the two 17mm nuts under the mounts removed on both sides. Based on reading online, I would need to loosen the 4 bolts that hold the bracket to the side of the motor on one side only and then jack the motor up slightly and remove them. I managed to get two of them undone but I am having problems finding torque to remove the other two on one side. I can fit a socket wrench on there though. I was thinking about buying a long 3/8 socket wrench to have alot more torque.

Is this maybe the best way to finish removing these bolts? I thought about using a 1/2" drive long socket wrench but im unsure if a 1/2 drive would fit in there.

Have you tried using the handle of your jack as a breaker bar for more leverage? Or some other pipe type item?

I used to have a pretty decent size bar to use. Never really thought of using the handle from my smaller jack. Maybe ill give it a try after work. But If I recall correctly there is a slit inside the handle which is used to raise and lower the jack. So maybe I should just invest in a bigger socket wrench if it doesnt work. Would you all use a 3/8 or 1/2?

Buy a 3/8" ratchet. It should be a government mandate that all males should own one by the age of 15.

You need a 3/8" drive breaker bar to pop the bolts loose, or as others mentioned use a "cheater bar" like the handle from a jack or a piece of pipe and place it over the end of your standard 3/8" drive ratchet.

You're on the right path. Get those four bolts loose on one side, then jack up the engine from the bottom of the oil pan a bit to get the clearance necessary to weasel the mount out of there. Make sure you have both mount's two bottom nuts off before you jack the engine up else you'll rip something.

BTW - You'll need that breaker bar or cheater bar again when trying to loosen the big nut on the top of the mount that connects it to the aluminum bracket. That one might get a little dicey with a 3/8" drive depending on how tight that nut has worked itself on there, and a 1/2" drive would be more desirable... but hey, Craftsman has a lifetime warranty in case you pop that new ratchet!

After buying the longer socket wrench, those bolts popped off with ease. Had the motor mount out in 10 minutes. The passenger one was definitely split at the top and had no fluid in the middle (assume it was all dried out). The driver side how ever was partially split but was filled with the orange fluid stuff. Hopefully Ill notice a slight difference!
