Default Stock Alarm System? Please Help!

I woke up this morning on my day off and walked outside to my drive way only to see that my car had been broken into. My convertible top had been cut wide open and my things were thrown about the car. Luckily they did not steal anything of value!!!! The car is completely stock and I only had some random paperwork and business cards in it. I now have a few problems though!!! The first of course is the ripped top and the second is my horn. The horn sounds weak and lifeless when I press the lock key on my remote, where as before it let off a strong honk. I bought my 2004 S used and to tell you the truth really didn't know if it came with an alarm system or not. I thought it may be a faux alarm making a noise just to ensure the driver that his or her doors had truly been locked. My question is do all S's have an alarm system standard and if so could the theifs have damged it by yanking on some wires or taking something out? I need to find out so I can add it to the police report I made today. If there is anyone who has had this happen to them or or there is anyone who can give me some information I would really appreciate it. It really sucks to be in this situation especially when you love your car and now have to pay a fat deductible. I want a hard top now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also have State Farm insurance and they are telling me that they don't give checks to the owner in this situation. They send a check to the dealer ship that will be fixing your car. ???? What kind of BS is that and how can I get a check? I just want a hard top now so I don't have to deal with this crap. If I do it their way I will have to get another soft top!
Thanks for any advice you can give me!!
Thanks

That sounds like crap, why would they not give you a check? Maybe tell them you want to make an upgrade to a hard top for the reasons you have and Honda doesn't provide? Or Maybe You can go through Honda to get a hard top?

No I don't have an alarm. Just the dummy system you mentioned. Has a automatic disabling system though apperently, if someone tries to hot wire the car to steel it.

All S came with oem keyless entry, the optional OEM alarm has a key fob with a little metal ring. they are shaped just like the keyless entry fob but it's a tad different.

sorry it happen, maybe you should go with a good 2 way pager alarm with a motion sensor.

If you have the OEM alarm I think your remote is slightly different. I think one of the buttons has the word "option" instead of the little picture of the car with an open trunk on the OEM alarm remote. Also I think the OEM alarm control unit mounts under the drivers seat. So you may be able to see it by looking under the seat with a mirror or something.
I actually learned the term "betterment" from these forums. Basically it means you're insurance is gonna screw you on the replacement value of the soft top anyway. I like your hardtop idea. I would just pull the soft top (since it's damaged ) and install a hardtop. I don't know exactly how you would go about getting the check. Good luck with everything.

EDIT: Also, I'm not sure I would even trust a dealership to install a soft top. At least none I'm aware of.

For the price the dealer would charge for the new soft top plus labor you could buy a nice hard top for the same price. Then I would'nt have to worry as much about people breaking in. I might just need a new Insurance agent! This one acts like he has some deal with the dealerships or something.

It may vary by state and what office handles the claims, but I had this happen in Miami Florida and Statefarm was great. So great that I have not bothered to consider switching even when I was offered a great deal from Allstate. They sent an adjuster to my home to see the car, he made an estimate and a check was mailed to me within a few business days. I was paid for the full amount of the estimate minus my deductible.

Now one thing I can say is that I had my car financed through my credit union at the time. They cut the check to me and my credit union. My credit union is great and had no problem taking my word that I was repairing the vehicle. I know that if you have a large amount financed, they will not simply cut a check to you. Do you perhaps have the car financed with your dealership? If so this might explain the situation a bit?

I know for fact that the stock alarm doesn't do much. Once your baby is repaired, If i were you, I would invest in a nice pager alarm.

I would like to point out that a hardtop is somewhat false security, and if anything, could make your s2000 a bigger target. The hardtop is secured with 4 latches which are easily "unhooked". And I call it a bigger target because if someone wants to steal your hardtop, they can bring a van or trunk, bust your window, unlatch and take it. And now you are out $2500. Until someone develops locks for our hardtops, it's just as bad as your top getting slashed.

Best thing is a garage. Next is an alarm.
