stupid honda tech or good idea?
I took my S in for a 60k service yesterday. I usually change my own oil but I figured I would let them do it since I was being charged $300. The last time I took my car in (30k) they forgot to put the oil cap back on so this time I did quick check before I left the parking lot. I found the oil change sticker on the floor when I got home and it said they used 5w-20 oil! The oil on the dipstick looked like white wine and was difficult to see so I dont think the sticker was wrong. I did some research on this site and found that some people run this in their S but recieved mixed reviews. I'm in my car about 2.5 hours per day and I'm afraid that 5w-20 oil will be broken down easily by the engine temperature. I just want to be sure that using 5w-20 isnt some new "idea" that I'm not familiar with before I call and raise hell.
Thanks,
Chris

Terrible idea, go back and get 10W-30 put in. 5W-20 is far too thin for the F-series engines. Also make sure they are using the correct "PCX" filter that is S2k-specific. I'd demand some money back or free coupons for something down the line. Be sure to tell them this isn't the first time you've had oil change problems. For the future, find a new dealership.

5W20 is the oil that Honda is pushing dealers to use on almost the complete line of their cars. Your dealer is too stupid to realize that the S2000 is an exception.
Its always sad to hear these type of stories with Honda Dealerships.
You would figure that the Honda dealer would know your Honda the best. I mean for pete's sake, the correct oil weight is written clearly on the oil cap!!
On my older s2000, the dealer once put in 5w20 oil in my engine. Another time, at a different dealersip they put in the wrong oil filter. And yet another time at another dealership they put in VTM dual pump diff fluid in my differential. 3 different dealers, 3 diffent screw ups.
Needless to say, I do my own maintenance on my newer s2000.

Nobody touches my '2k or Civic but, me. My wife's car, it's got a warranty so, I don't give a crap about it. It'll be gone in 3 years so, even if they put the wrong oil in, it doesn't matter much.
The only thing I can't do is an alignment. When I get one, I stay there and watch them do it.

5W-20 is too thin at operating temp.
Because of the 20!
Not because of the 5W.
Allthough I have seen UOA (Used Oil Analysis) of 5W-20 oil out of a Ferrari (Enzo?) and a Lamborgini (don't know what type) and the results were great!
No increase in wear detected in the oil.
Those engines are not supposed to run that oil either.
(IIRC the Ferrari oil specs are 5W-40 or 0W-40)
And the owner puts it in knowingly and with complete awareness.
Then takes those cars to the track and drives them (hard) on the street.
Does a UOA and posts it online for everyone to see and comment about it.
Still, I would not use it in my F20C.
Mainly because I do not have the financial recourses to "just buy another S2000" if it doesn't work.
