Default Super Charger Break-in Period???

Just wondering if there is a Super Charger break in period.
My bearings went out on my Charger with a little over a month of use. I don't drive it hard, rarely ever going past 6500 rpms and I always warmed up the engine and let it cool down for about twenty seconds before shutting off.

I know my bearings going out is a fluke thing but wondering if there is a break in proccess for the unit.

Thanks, JDM

Your bearings will go regardless of treatment if the belt is too tight. Did you do the mandatory belt check?

Or if the oiling circuit was not working as it should.

what is the mandatory belt check? I've gone down an inch and a half on my SC pulley and I actually have less power now than when I had the stock SC. Granted I have an intercooler now to take some boost out of play, but not that much. I have always wondered how tight the belt should be. Is there a check I can do? The belt isn't slipping off, and seems to stay in pretty good shape. I'm also starting to think there's something wrong with the SC, and that I may have to get another one.

Sorry, not trying to hijack the post, but I would like some more info on the mandatory belt check. I never had much info on the SC (Comptech) since I bought the car with it already on there.

Thanks,
Dave

The belt tension is described in the Vortech manual and I'm sure that Comptech must also have something in theirs. You should check your manual in case there is a difference from Vortech to Comptech.
The following is my knowledge of Vortech:
The belt tension should be checked between two convenient pulleys at mid point. You grab it with your fingers and twist it. It should twist to more or less 45 degree deflection with "moderate" force. More than 45 degrees and you need to tighten or you'll lose boost. Less than 45 degrees and it's too tight and you will wear out the bearing or break the belt.
The only "mandatory" check is within 300 to 500 miles (approx.) of initial installation as the new belt will stretch. After this, you should check it periodically, depending on how hard you drive the car. You should be able to tell by looking at your boost gauge. As the belt stretches more, you will not be able to achieve max boost.

thanks, i didn't get a manual with mine but I'm sure somebody around here has one. I will try what you said for now. It definitely makes sense.

Thanks,
Dave

PS. I saw your post about no one showing appreciation for your help Xviper, the link wouldn't work for me, but I would like to thank you, you've helped me a ton in the past year or so. There are plenty of us out here that appreciate your input and knowledge! I honestly post my questions sometimes thinking "I hope Xviper reads this thread." We do appreciate your help...tremenduously (sp?)!

I have a Comptech unit... I had a reputable shop do the install here in Socal.

So is there no break in period?
What boost gauges are you guys using?

I did check the belt periodically... not much change. It's not my only car and rarely drove it since I got the Blower. Maybe a little more than a month of use.

Are you guys completely warming up the engine to make sure that the oil is moving through the Blower?

I always wait till the car is completely warmed up and oil is dispersed before driving. Just wondering if everyone else does this. C'mon be honest...
