Bent or broken valves, cracked retainers, dents or holes in the pistons.

Empty wallet.

Why what happened? If you explain what happened we can help you better. I blew my engine about a month ago, thankfully for having family in the industry that helped me out allot so I had my car back about 5 days later and for under $900. But usually it will take a couple weeks and will run $2-3k for a good job.

The symptoms are pretty obvious though. When the engine finally went the car would not idle, the entire car would shake violently, I could barely start the car, sounded like I was running off headers with holes in them, black smoke. Basically your car is no way near being drivable

Now those are symptoms of engine that has gone. One that suffered from a not so severe over-rev may not have any issues for a little while. The car may idle rough and kind of shake more than usual. Loss of performance. Or it can run fine and get worse with time. I suggest letting us know what happened and get a compression and leak down test ASAP

low compression, low power, rattle noises. misfires, CEL lights. if you have had a mechanical over rev, take it to a mechanic. BTW i'm told these engines may go to 10,700 rpm before you bend a valve. do have it looked at. good luck

well i was on the beltway and there was a vw pacing ahead of me. so i meant to downshift to 4th from 75mph but i of course went to 2nd. it only lasted a split second, i immediately caught my mistake and thankfully i wasn't mashing the gas anyway. i didn't have a chance to look at the tach but in my peripheral vision i saw the light arc across my dash and it sounded like at least 9k. however, i'm not sure about this but shouldn't the rev limiter have 'tried' to stop the over rev (i know it can't stop it)? i heard no cut in ignition.
anyways i immediately took the next exit and popped the hood with the engine running and everything looked, sounded, smelled fine. it's been a week now and i've taken it to 9k plenty of times with no apparent problems. i'm just kinda paranoid of everything now. I may be hearing a hum that wasn't there, or the exhuaust may smell different, more exhaust may be coming out than usual, the belts are clicking; or maybe it's just the cold weather setting in. I think my senses are just heightened. i'm gonna compare my sounds/performance to my friends s2k to check.

The rev limiter doesn't work on downshifts. The only way to over-rev an S2000 (that I know of) is by doing what you did. Sounds like you might have caught it quick enough to avoid any damage though.

I heard something like 11,000 RPM before a valve bends. I've over-reved due to shifter being stuck in 2nd...thank god no problems yet.

Yea, sounds like you may have lucked out. I would still suggest you do a leak down adn compression test. I know how you feel, until you these things and find out if its ok you will always feel like the car isnt at 100 percent. It's an annoying feeling!
