Default Synthetic oil burn

Hey guys,

Does a synthetic oil burn off faster than conventional? I have noticed that my engine burns Mobil 1 synthetic much faster than the Honda conventional oil. Why is this?

Lots of people report increased consumption with M1. I would try several different brands of synthetic oil before arriving at the conclusion that all synthetics have a higher consumption rate in your car.

Keep in mind that each car is slightly different, my car doesn't burn any noticeable amount of oil between changes. I have run 5w30, 5w40, 10w30, and 0w30 synthetic oils from Shell, Mobil, Pennzoil, and Castrol. None of them resulted in any noticeable oil consumption. If your car burns M1 change it to something else and see what happens.

My car burns less oil with synthetic oil.

According to several experts most of the myths of synth no being good for older cars, etc., etc. are just that myths. In the beginning (hey, that would be a good opening line for a book) the synths were very limited range of viscosity and therefore in a high mileage vehicle the lighter oils might burn more. But all that is decades behind us now.

Read this http://63.240.161.99/motoroil/index.html it gives a lot of updated info.

Synthetic oil burns more since its thinner, molecules are smaller.

Synthetic might be more prone to seepage

Synthetic might be more prone to speculation.
Seriously, check out the oil journals and BITOG...
