Default Synthetic oil or not?

Hello all,

I needed to get some guidance on my 05' S2000. Here's the deal due to health issues, my S2 only gets driven once a week for a couple of miles. I currently have 27k miles, last December, got brand new tires in the front and major service done. Rear tires were changed at 22k. Since I only put 4 to 8 miles a month on it, I've been thinking of going with synthetic oil, at my next oil change. I'm also woundering with my situation, how often I should change the oil, as well as having all fluids changed(major service)? I'm sure there's some S2K owners out there that go buy a certain rule for a car that doesn't get driven that much. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

i wouldnt waste money on synthetic personally if you are not gonna use for the extended change interval and it doesnt sound like you beat on it when you do drive it so you dont need the added protection of a more shear resistant oil either.

Wait... you only drive your car 4-8 miles per month? As in 50-100 miles per year??

Thanks sillyboybmxr I appreciate the reply.

Deepbluejh, yes that is correct! Ever since 08' I'm unable to drive too much. So, it's only driven once a week for 2 miles. From the time I got my 05' in October of 04' my S2 was used as a DD/weekend car depending on which one of my offices I had to be at. So now it just sleeps nicely in the garage w/OEM car cover on it.

Honestly, at that little usage, just buy regular oil and change it once a year.

Also, if you can handle it, drive it a longer distance and time. That will allow the car to come up to full temperature and drive accumulated moisture out of the fluids.

deepbluejh, bottleboy & SheDrivesIt thank you for all your replies. I do need to do a longer drive, but haven't been up to par lately. Thanks for all your help! I was able to at least take care of the convertible top with - Shin-Etsu grease, Honda spray white lithium grease & Raggtop before the hardtop goes back on. I also, clay bared, waxed & sealed the paint and take care of the vinyl & clean & condition the leather. All I need to do now is wash my OEM car cover, and have the front under spoiler installed. Am I missing anything else?

All I can add is maybe let the thing just idle for a while to help the temp stabilize and then drive what you can. Not sure what kind of neighborhood you are in so you can do that.

You may want a trickle charger for the battery.

As it does sit for a while between starts, synthetic does offer better protection than dino oil. May want to go for 0W-30 for better protection during start no matter what the ambient temp is.

cosmomiller, I couldn't see the oil you suggested? 0W-30, is that correct? The neighborhood I live in is fine. I do have a trickle charger, but since a brand new battery was installed 4 months ago, I was going to start using it again once I have the OEM front under spoiler installed. What brand and weight synthetic oil do you recommend?

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated.
