Default Tappy Engine

Hi guys.

Engine have been very noisy lately, mainly a tappy noise coming from the header side.

Header is a hytech na. Not tct as I have Ballade sports TCT and know the noise a TCT makes

Noise is prominent when parked with a wall against drivers side (UK = rhd)

Mileage = 114k

Oil is fine.

Any ideas?

Oh boy, mine makes the same kind of sound. Whenever I go through a drive through or park between two cars you can hear what sounds like the top end (?) tapping away.

Hoping someone else can chime in, I'd like to know if it's normal or not.

very hard to hear in that video. from the video it sound like the injectors which you dont really need to worry about but as youve said in the OP it has only become noisy lately i would take a guess at the timing chain tensioner. Common fault and a relatively easy fix. have a quick search on here

Does the car still drive ok ?

Thanks for the replies.

Car drives like it always has done, haven't noticed any loss in power etc. Only difference is the tappety noise.

Valve clearances all in check after last service last year (2k miles ago). Upgraded retainers. It's just anoying.

have a look at this video. Gives you an idea on how to fix the rattle you get the the timing chain tensioner isn't fully efficient

Prolly just normal injector and valve train noise. Mine makes a flutter sound when next to cars or going under a tunnel

You are probably right. I will do some investigation tomorrow and let you know what I find.

Just a point, I did look under the car rhs with engine running and the tappety tickety was easier to hear at the Base of engine.

I know a knocking indicates bottom end bearing. Got me nervous!

Does the tapping go away if you press the clutch?
