the term "throwing a rod"

Default the term "throwing a rod"

when someone talks about throwing a rod, are they referring to connecting rods or pushrods? i always thought it was referring to a pushrod however another thread i posted in has me wondering if i've been wrong.
also how and why does this happen? thanks and sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this question in.

"throwing a rod" is usually reffered to breaking a connecting rod.

causes?..... hydrolock(more like bending a rod), predetonation, tooooooooo much power(couple hundred above stock), poor/no engine maintenence. excesively worn bores. damaged connecting rod prior to engine assembly......... list goes on and on

Well, the s2k can't throw a pushrod because it doesn't have any.

A thrown rod is always reffering to a broken connecting rod
