Default Terrible Transmission Problem HELP

This sucks, right before christmas..

Well today I was coming home from football..
At a red light and seriously just put in first and went to about 3000 rpm and shifted into 2nd.. it grinded.. I was ok, tryed again, and it wont go in just grind, so i put it in 3rd and went home...

Now if the car is idlein not in gear there is a terrible noise, like clunk clunk clunk clunk... Motor is running fine, no check engine...

I cant put it in 2nd gear, just goes nasty grindin sound..
But i can put in first or 3rd or any other gear but you still hear the clunk clunk clunk while driving.....

What doesn't get me, is i wasn't driving hard at all, something just broke..

What you think... Was it the actual gear that broke?
And what you think is gonna be the cost?

All options would be great to guys...

this may or may not apply to you because you have a 2001 and this is for 2000

My car is way out of warrenty though, and plus this isn't just a grind anymore.. You cant get it into 2nd and there is a clunk clunk clunk sound when just idling... NOT from engine though..

I had the same problem with my car - dont drive it at all. Teeth on my second gear was damaged which caused the main shaft 2 bend. I had 2 get a new box

Havent tried yet, I will try in a min...

But just to let you know, since i didn't add this earlier...

When the clutch is pushed in with it not in gear it doesn't make any noise
But when the clutch is let out, not in gear it does make that clunking noise.

ok when the car is off I can put it in 2nd gear and take it out ( I even started it, left it in second, and slowly left off the clutch and it slowly brought the revs and creeped the car forward, I did it in the driveway so I dont know how much pressure it could take).. But yea...
Once its started if you push the clutch in its cool, but right when u let the clutch out when not in gear it makes the loud clunk clunk clunk sound, and its loud, kinda sounds like its grinding..

Psychic diagnosis is 75% missing tooth on gearbox, and 25% clutch plate centre.

Does it crunch badly selecting reverse if the engine is running? Does it try to drive itself forwards, even if you have your foot on the clutch. If so I'd say clutch.

If you drive it slowly does one of the gears make a real "chunk-chunk-chunk" noise? If so thats the gear with the missing tooth.

Merry Christmas anyway.
