Default Test Pipe Smoke

How many of you with a test pipe notice/see this?

I've been getting a lot of puffs of smoke recently (not at once, just a big puff of smoke...but its been happening more regularly - or im noticing it more regularly) and I wanted to know the size/color/frequency/oil consumption/ambient conditions of when it occurs for YOU guys.

Size: Big enough to see at night when other cars are behind me
color: whiteish/grayish (?) not too sure since all I see is the lights being covered
Frequency: I notice it once a week, so perhaps once or twice a day?
oil consumption: Normal consumption for AP1, maybe 1 qt per 2K miles
ambient condition: I only notice it at NIGHT and usually when its HUMID.
smell: I can also SMELL it right before I see it, if my windows are down/AC is off. I have an exhaust leak from the TP section (buying a new donut gasket now) so I think thats why I can smell it, it smells like oil burning.

I'm talking about big puffs of smoke, as in I can see it from my right, left and rearview mirror!

I thought it'd be helpful for others as well, after they install a test pipe so they dont freak out like I did/am doing.

I notice it happens only when the car is NOT warmed fully, that is: 3 bars but not at hottest temp - I have a feeling this might be the rings not fully expanding?

-------------

edit
others with the same symptoms:

2000 AP1 (happens acceleration then slow to stop, smoke at idle)
2002 AP1 (every now and then)
2005 AP2 (only during WOT)
2002 Ap1 (acceleration->stop)

I've never had puffs of smoke like you described after I put in my test pipe... are you sure that's normal?

Its only happened to me a few times, driving in traffic, did a 4k acceleration and then i had to put it in neutral to stop and right back into gear. It was a poof of greyish smoke. I can always smell my test pipe.

What oil are you using?

A puff of smoke here and there is somewhat normal for running a TP. However from what you described it sounds like blow-by from maybe worn out rings?

No way to tell unless you give us more info. i.e...mods, mileage on the car, etc...

I get a puff of white smoke every now and then also. I've been told black smoke exits my mufflers at high rpm shifts also.

240, are you certain that you're not getting it? I am almost 100% sure that its a byproduct of the TP. I'll get some compression numbers but the car itself runs great.

if you do a search for "smoke" in s2ki theres a bunch of those threads. if I had worn out rings, wouldn't the smoke be more noticeable all the time + at high RPMS?

I'm getting this smoke as I take off from a light, sporadically..

Presto, I think the black smoke is very common for all s2000 since they run rich/leave carbon deposits. On a recent cruise, every s2000 in front of me that was shifting was blowing out black carbon smoke.

wisdom, I'm using Mobil1 EP (supposed to be a lot better than M1 standard)

I don't think I'm getting any puffs of smoke from my TP, maybe it's not happening often enough for me to even notice. I do have the awful TP smell though, but that's to be expected.

As I'm about to fit a test pipe, I'm curious about the accompanying smell that people often refer to.

Can anyone describe this?

Smells like you're running rich, except 100x more potent.
