Default Thermostat & Switch Install

I just ordered my Spoon Thermostat, Thermoswitch, and Radiator Cap. I was trying to look up some install info, but there really isnt much avalible. I dont know if I am supposed to drain the radiator or not, the older posts just seem unclear. I went to Helm's site, and tried to find the famous Helm's manual everyone is talking about, but it wasnt quite that easy, I didnt know exactly what I was looking for, and the search came up with nothing on their site. Does anyone have a detailed install, pics would be most appreciated, and also, where the heck can I buy a Helm's manual for the S2000.

The only other thing I will have to learn how to do is change the radiator cap, I think I will have a honda service tech help me with that one.

i have these two items waiting to be installed as well. from what i've heard in past threads, it is not an easy task. i believe it is necessary to drain the radiator. hopefully someone who has done this in the past will shed some light.

If you do a search on 'Mugen thermostat install' you'll find several threads detailing how to do it. The instructions will be the same for any make of t-stat or fan switch.
The thermostat is not easy to get to, and you should drain the coolant first. The fan switch is very simple, but you'll need a 24mm deep socket for your torque wrench. The torque figures are 17lb.-ft for the fan switch, and 8.7lb.-ft for the 2 bolts on the thermostat housing. You may need a wobble head wrench to get to the bolts on the thermostat housing.

I will try another search, and I found the manual I was looking for too. I have just about every tool in existance, so there wont be any problems getting to the bolts... I was just hoping I dont have to drain the coolant to do this job. If the system is not empty of coolant, when I remove the thermostat, will the coolant come with it?

You will have to drain the coolant. The thermostat has to be accessed from under the car, so unless you like the taste of antifreeze, you should drain it.

I suggest you also read the manual about bleeding the cooling system when you refill it.
