Gotta agree ... I don't think it will do anything of cooling with that thing on. Imagine metal at high temperatures, more metal will just make it more hot. And as Naishou mentioned about the fins ... What the heck is that? Aerodynamics in the engine bay or under the car near the road? Damn ... I doubt completely what it does. Just makes changing your oil filter a much harder task.

I'd think it would reduce the temperature of your engine by at least 1/4 degree.

Looking at it, there is very little surface area. The fins do not look substantial. If you consider all the other surfaces on the engine, it is a very small area in which to try to conduct heat from the engine. I don't think it would make any measurable difference. Let me know if you find out otherwise.

The fins would be more effective on a metal cased filter. Other than that I wouldn't want to speculate to much about what it would do. My guess is not that much.

Shingles- Hey what's going on man ? I am pretty sure that it would make a difference. It would certainly cool the oil filter. Basically, it seems as if it would function like a heatsink . The fins are integral to the design as it increases the surface area of the heatsink. (and thus the capacity to remove heat) With all that being said, I believe it would be better if the device could recieve some airflow at speed. In its current state it basically is using conduction as the heat transfer mode. With airflow you would get the added benefits of convection as well. The real question is how much of a difference will it make ? For real I have seen much better examples than that one,but at 18 bucks it's worth a try.

Maybe you should give it a try and let us know if there is any difference or not. Have to agree, 20 bucks is not too much to ask for in an experiment like this.

Why should the thread be locked? Please explain...

I don't get it... seems like folks are really hostile around here... I find something that seemed interesting, didn't say it works, didn't even imply that it might work, but simply asking what do you think. Them comes the attitude...

sad.
