Default Throttle cable tension

I was fiddling under the hood the other day and I noticed the throttle cable was lax. How much tension should there be?

4-6mm of free play - put a ruler perpendicular to the cable and press the cable down down to measure. You should be able to get 4-6mm of vertical travel before it starts pulling the butterfly valve.

I tightened the cable... until it had a little play, at closed throttle. Like 1/8th inch free-play depression. Seem to work fine. I have a 2007.

So the answer to your question is..... none. It should have slack.

If there's tension the throttle plate won't close, and wear out the cable. Too much and it'll slow throttle response. There's a just right amount of slack.

Thanks everyone. There was easily 3 cm slack! I tightened the cable so it's under 1 cm now. But the nuts are all the to the ends of the adjustment. Is there another adjustment point, or is the cable just stretched out?

Confuse. "Not too much, not too little?"

you had over an inch of slack? That's way too much. 1cm is decent.

Oh yea, it was redunculous! I was pretty sure that wasn't right. The warden has been driving, so she would never have noticed the slow throttle response. The adjustment nuts are all the way to the ends of the adjustment now. Is there another adjustment point, or is the cable just stretched out?
