thrust washer 4.77 gears
Hi, just wondering what thickness thrust washer i would be looking at using to fit the 4.77 ring and pinion. I believe it is going to be on the thicker side like the 3.3mm but if anyone has experience with it and has a ballpark that would be great, the shop doing it want me to buy a set of them which is in the region of £400 and only one is going to be used and i can't return it to honda so not really wanting to waste £400 on it. also wanted to know if you could buy one that is too thick and just cnc it down till it is right or just have one custom made, thanks.
*usually* the shim that is currently in the diff provides the proper adjustment. Shops want a set just incase it doesn't fit, which is understandable. They don't want your diff torn apart and not having the correct thickness shims on hand to reassemble it.
Ok thanks makes sense, appreciate the help
I'm running a 4.77 CWP having used the original washer/shim when rebuilding and no issues. As above the garages will be covering themselves but numerous builders/racers use the original shim when building diffs.
