Default Tick, Tick, Tick..... Valves?

I have an 01 s2k, 64k miles on her currently. The other morning from a cold start I noticed a ticking, popped the hood and noticed it was coming from under the valve cover, definitely at the top of the engine. I have limited experience, but from the experience I do have I would assume that it is a valve ticking for some reason. It does it really bad (loud) when cold, and under power (speeds up the ticking). Checked the oil it was good and not due to be changed, changed it anyway and it still ticks. Is there a problem with a valve or do they just need adjusted? Or is the diagnosis something completely different? I have owned my s for just about 2 years now, do not know if the valves were ever adjusted by the previous owner.

Thanks, Matt

It's not the timing chain tensioner?

Is the noise always there or does it go away?

I would first just do a valve adjustment, that way you know its done. That also might make some of the noise go away if it is the valves. If noise is still there, replace TCT.

Id post a sound clip before you go and replace parts/do a valve adjustment especially if you arent mechanically inclined as a valve adjustment will cost you 150...and the TCT at another +-150.

There is a full DIY around here somewhere for the valve adjustment. You dont really have to be mechanically inclined to pick out the feeler gauges you need, and make sure they are all within spec.

Just to clear things up the ticking is constant, and speeds up when the engine revs, or accelerates. Ive been doing research and reading posts, and sounds like the TCT, (card in the spokes of a bike sound). What are the tell tale signs that the TCT needs replaced? Do you lose power or notice any difference in driveability, because I have not? Where can I get the parts?
