Default Tie Rod Boot Replacement

Hi folks,

I've got replacing the front tie rod ball joint boots on my to do list. After reading a number of threads, it looks like having this boot clip guide makes things easier (07GAG-SD40700). I could probably use this tool a few more times, so I went ahead and ordered it from Majestic Honda, however, I recently received an email that the tool is not available and is backordered with no ETA.

Does anyone have an alternate source for this tool or is there an alternative method for easily installing these clips?

Thanks all for the help!
Thomas

why don't you just change the whole tie rod? if the boot is shot most likely water and dirt got in.

Pocket screwdriver and some grease or 32mm socket and a hammer depends on the style of the boot.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Luckily, the boot hasn't worn completely through, so I can save the joint, but do need a fresh boot.

Sounds like I'm going to go about this the old fashioned way, though. Hopefully with some choice four-letter words, grease, and some handy screwdriver/socket+hammer work, this'll finally get off my to-do list.

Hey folks,

Just wanted to post back for others that might be attempting this. What I ended up doing, is going to Autozone/Advanced and found a slender plastic funnel that the boot fit into, and then cut the funnel so that it rested overtop of boot on the tie rod end. Then using the adapted funnel, sliding the clip down overtop the funnel and (almost) into place was pretty easy. On both sides the clip didnt fall perfectly on the boot groove, so I did have to manually adjust it with some pliers to make it seat just right.
