Just got thru changing my oil (Castrol Syntec) and noticed my throttle cable had
mucho slack! Easy to tighten, loosen
locknut (towards radiator), take up slack with adjustment nut.(towards firewall)
Play should be about 1/4" of deflection.
Kinda felt like I had better throttle response.....but then again the car as feels good after a diet of fresh synthetic oil! Tally Ho!

Spec, make sure the over travel is not excessive at WOT. Might bend something or snap cable if too tight.

Thanks for the advice, Spectre! I checked mine and it was about 50% greater than spec. I tightened that cable and expect to see some performance gain at no cost! This should take full advantage of the tb rebore as well.

What is spec and how did you determine it was out of spec?

Specification calls for 4-6mm or 3/16-1/4" deflection of the cable. Mine was about 3/8". Measure by placing finger pressure on the cable midway between the set screws and tb arm until just before the tb arm starts to move. Used a ruler.

Agreed. I check throttle cable slack with every oil change. After about 4k miles, both mine and Sondra's had excessive slack. I tightened them up, although I noticed no difference in performance. Oh, BTW, I forgot to tell you that, Sondra. You had a LOT of slack, so, you're welcome.

Just did mine this morning. Wow, it's like I got back some lost performance...for free!
