Timing chain tensioner
I wouldn't say mobil1 is the culprit. But I used to use nothing but mobil1 and not just them, but almost every oil on the shelf these days is sub par quality due mainly to zinc content. The govertment changed the limit for zinc content and to meet the new spec the oil companies had to comply. Zinc is a huge factor in oil offering protection. Even more so if you track the car. Look at amsoil zrod oil's zinc content vs mobil. You will see. By no means am I trying to start an oild thread here but just stating facts. And I would think 15/50 is way to thick. To thick on start up and you would have to hope it sheers down to a 40 weight to meet the mfg requirements for the motor.
Wow that's a lot of TCT to go thru. I'd hit up Alex Doan (AlexS2200) at Ballade Sports for one of theirs. It's suppose to have a long service life and price is very affordable. I'm using his right now and no issue no ticking with several track days and weekend drives.
so i just put in my new TCT from inline pro and the noise is still present tomorrow i will change the oil again back to its orignal weight. the noise is present at start up and until the motor goes above 2500 rpm. this is starting to stress me to the point where i think im ready to give up on this car and go back to FWD boosted eg's and ek's. i just wonder how many people are having the same issue and if this is something that the ap1 just does and there is nothing to do to fix it.
When you sit at 7k on the track you may need thicker oil, but nothing that you're doing.
There is no proof that m1 is bad.
