I'm trying to remove the tail section of my transmission but I'm having trouble removing the shifter galley. I removed the 4 bolts holding it on, but it won't move. I need to remove it to get the bolt holding on the shift rod/tube.
Well, tail is out, can't get the flange nut off. It has been tightened so the stake mark on the nut is about a quarter turn past the slot on the tailshaft itself. This is probably why the middle bearing burned up, the other 2 are in pretty good shape, but I'm going to change them all out, once I get this flange nut off.
Anyone have any tips short of using heat? Otherwise I guess I'm waiting on the holder tool from Honda. Impact alone won't do it.
Middle bearing was cooked, full of hot spots on all the rollers and the race.
All in all, doing this is easier than dropping the transmission as long as you have the tools. You definitely need a shop press.
I got the preload on the first try. The trick is micing the bearing in the race, with the shim then measure the new bearing in the race, and the appropriate shim so the height is the same.
