Number one way to spike the rectifier and cause a flickering dash in the S2000.

never disconnect the battery with the engine running in any modern vehicle.

do NOT DO THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE

you will do damage to the car, if you have an understanding of how the electrical system works, you would NEVER do this.

whoa! Thank you for the heads up, glad I don't have the car for a while or else I would've done it the next day.

Can anyone chime in as to who has removed the battery while the car is on?

Has anyone ever had to replace an ECU in the S2000?

To test the alternator just put a voltmeter on the battery when it is idling, volts should be 13-14 range, or basically above the readings you get when the car is turned off. No need to disconnect the battery.

That is not a good idea....

Just get a voltage meter and test the battery with the car running and while off. You'll get readings to show if the alternator is getting the correct amount to the battery. Should be around 13 for the alternator, not sure if billman can chime in.

I also had a similar problem with the car dying and flashing eps/abs/battery lights on the cluster, and sure enough, it was a weak battery. If it got that bad, most likely you'll need a new one, as some batteries lose half it's life if they die once.

should be straight forward. take out necessary things to get to the alternator ( make sure to disconnect the battery lol or u will see firework) loosen belt. remove bolts. place new 1 in. use tensioner to tighten belt. pretty much it. ohhh make sure u use OEM 1! dont use the shittty autozone one. this is the only thing i would not get from autozone... its not fun to replace and u do not replace it often. so might as well spend a little more and do it right.
