here a bright idea change your freakin oil!!!!!!!!!! use the apprpriate 10w-30 that it calls for. you deserve a kick in the nutz letting it go tthat low in the first place, and yes ap1's burn through oil like my 01 plelude with cracked ring lands. pray and cross your fingers that you didnt do that. a real quick test to check your rings and over oiling which can cause foaming is to:
A. warm up car to operating temp
B. hold up white paper towel to the exhaust tip (just in front of them, not blocking)
C. have someone rev the car to about 7 grand for about 4-5 sec.
D. check for black oil on towel. this indicates bad rings or lands valve guides ect. aka blow-by
E. dont be an idiot, i have no pity for stupid people

get a leak down and compression test done if you are worried and or if you have oil coming out of the exhaust. ( dont confuse oil with soot though ) oil smears and is smooth. soot is smooth and powdery. good luck

for all of you that say going a little over is bad.....i beg the differ. us cheaper folk add about a half a quart over full during auto cross events to help prevent oil starvation. it works short term. would i run it like that over an extended period of time? No. chances are if you f***ed something up, it doesnt matter cuz its already done. sorry about your luck. should of bought an ap2. they dont use up oil like that. 8>9 ap2>ap1

this is of course just my experience. see what some other people say. i say better to much than not enough. it should be good. now i will get off my box and go to bed

I honestly dont think the original poster did any damage to the motor however continuous driving like that will eventually wreck the motor.

Basically but not quite. I find the top X's go up faster with less oil.. from the bottom L to the top H, its quite close to 1qt but not exactly.

Also, moneypit- something is wrong with your car if youre going through one quart of oil per fill up. Make sure YOUR car is not overfilled, check the dipstick only after at LEAST 1/2 hour (For the first time, before you get a knack of doing this) of letting the car sit. If its hot, you can take the oil level to the top, if its cold (overnight) keep the oil one X lower than the top.

i agree that something could be wrong if you are indeed burning a quart of oil between fill ups. definitely get a leak down and compression test. its easy to do, and if you don't think you can do it yourself or know what you are looking for......it shouldn't be that expensive.

sorry about my rave last night, but i hate it when people neglect their cars.

neglect is such a strong word. Never owned a a car that requires oil checks every 250 miles.. Or a Honda for that matter. I will certainly be more carefull. Cars running fine (or so it seems.) coming up on a fresh oil change here and will check for debris on the drain magnet/oil filter then. Thanks for your heart-felt concern s2ki

I'm not sure where you got the idea for overfilling your oil for autocrosses, but its been floating around for a while and is not a good idea imo. If you're that concerned, get a baffled oil pan to keep oil in place. Afaik the oil pick up on the S2000 is good enough you don't need to worry about oil starvation at an autocross.

The dipstick is a gauge for oil There are four marks between high and low, or full and add, depending on the dipstick. The range from full to add is 1 quart and is the manufacturer's range for cold oil to fluctuate and still be in operating parameters. If you are "one x down", you are one quarter quart from the top end of the range, but anything between low and full is acceptable range.

If you are below that range, yes, add oil, and keep an eye on the oil pressure light - running low oil runs the risk of no oil pressure and that can ruin the engine. As well, less oil reserves means hotter oil that becomes less effective and doesn't last as long. If you are over the full mark, you need to be careful because you could have so much oil that the crank is dipping into it and whipping the oil up. This will create froth and that can kill or damage an engine as well.

I've seen AP1s burn through half a quart in 2 hours of hard driving, so its somehing you need to stay on top of with the F20 engine.

Main thing is, stay between the high and low marks, err on the side of high, don't overfill too much, and with an AP1, check your oil at every gas refill. I don't think you caused any damage, just stay on top of your oil level going forward.
