What exactly are you checking? It's probably easier just to replace them while you're cracking the bolts. The suggested intervals are a bit long IMO.

There isn't really a way to check the fluids. I guess you could open the fill bolts and stick a skewer or something in there to act as a dipstick, but I agree with takeshi. If you're concerned in the first place, you might as well just replace the fluids.

Not an easy way to check them. Its best to just change them at an interval you are comfortable with. Doesn't take much work and its fairly inexpensive to do it yourself.

Check out the DIY section under the Under the Hood forum and it will show you how to do it all - from finding the plugs to refreshing the fluids.

Basically you'd just remove the fill bolts and stick your finger in there to see if the fluid level is correct, but its impossible to really know without syphoning some fluid out what condition it looks to be in. Once you're under the car and have the fill bolt off, you might as well go all the way and drain and refill too.

If you're REALLY set against changing the fluids, you could just top them off. Remove the fill plugs and then add oil while the car is level and add fluid until it begins to run out.

Of course, this will not tell you anything about the condition of the fluid in there ... and so I can't recommend it.

bend a Q-tip on a 90 degree angle, dip it into the fill hole once the plug is removed and see where the level shows up, it should be pretty much right at the 90 degree bend as the bottom of the fill hole is proper level. If it is more than a 1/4 inch below then the fluid level is too low. But like everyone says while you go through the trouble of raising up the car on jackstands might was well swap out the fluids.

two bolts, top one to fill and bottom one to drain. crack open the top one and fill to spill, and then you know its at max capacity like it should. but of course like everybody said, might as well swap out all the fluids and then you know all the stuff is fresh and full...
