Default Tranny help?

Hey Guys.

I recently bought a second hand tranny from an engine and gearbox store and wanted to know if there are any visual characteristics to differentiate between an AP1 and AP2 tranny?

My original tranny was AP2 and due to costs of repairing, decided to buy a complete used one. The store I bought it from cant tell me which it is.

Thanks

yes, there is a difference in the weblike casting in the bell housing.

AP2 trans on the left. study carefully. See the round protrusion, it has a flat part extending away from it. The ap2 trans has a rib on top of this flat part. The rib is parallel to the fork. The ap1 does not.

Excellent - thanks bud - yea I do see the difference.
dropped the tranny off @ the workshop for reconditioning - will check it out in the week.
if the tranny is an AP1 - this isnt ideal right? as the AP2 is a better one?

I have an ap2 trans, I wouldn't call it better. Just different. Ap1 trans is solid and just as reliable than ap2.
