Default Trans and Diff Oil- Again?

I have read or tried to read all of the "Oil Journals" I am a an owner of a MY05. It was built in Oct. '04. I bought it new as a leftover in April of '06. I now have 3,000 miles on the car. I am old school. In the past after break-in, I always change all the fluids. Out with the bad and dirty and in with the new". I know about the engine oil and I'm not changing it until 7,500 miles. But what is the opinion of the group on changing the Trans and Diff oil at this point? Technicaly the oil has been sitting for almost 2 years. I plan to use Amsoil MTF in the trans and Severe Gear 75w-90 in the Diff. Any input would be great.

I'm on about the same time line you are (MY05, Jan '06). I changed out both the tranny and diff at 2500 miles. The diff looked ugly with a decent amount of metal sludge on the plug. Tranny? I wanted to go with GMSMFM, as I had success with that in the past in my Prelude.

I would also get the oil out way earlier than 7500. The time justifies it, so you might as well do it now with the other fluids.

After two years, do them ALL, including brake and clutch fluid.
Don't be fooled by the 7500 mile thing about the engine oil. That is only for when you can change to synthetic if you so desire. Your car has exceeded the TIME limitation on the service interval. Go by TIME, not mileage.

That's what I was thinking. Engine oil will remain dino oil until 10K mi with some moly added. What do you think about going to Syn oil on the trans and diff at this point. They should be well broken in since I have not babied it since the initial break-in.

Syn in diff and tranny shouldn't be a problem, definitely worn in I would think.

You could just go with a high moly oil like Havoline. Probably don't need any additive (but it won't hurt either).

The tranny fluid in your car is supposedly good for a very long time, however, if you feel that it's shifting oddly, go ahead and change it. It's cheap enough. I've heard that the Honda MTF is already a synthetic fluid.
As for the rear diff, I've always been a proponent of changing the first change early to get all the shavings out. 3000 miles is a good initial change. Many owners go with Mobil 1 75W90 synthetic GL-5 gear oil. If you don't operate the car in cold climates, LE-607 has also proven to be a good fluid to use. Change the rear diff annually after that.

Thanks, I'm thinking the same as you guys. I just wanted to check myself before I screw up this great ride.

i was in the same situation as OP and did exactly what XViper suggested. Things are great.

Went with GM synchromesh and le-607. oilwise, i went with catrol (it was on sale)...switching to mobil 1 at about 10k miles and then going to the 7,500 service interval because i drive so much now.

Just did a trans. and diff oil change. Went with LE-607 in the diff. and Amsoil in the trans.

Xviper is right, do the diff. early. I didn't do mine until 6200 and man it looked pretty bad. The plug was full of shavings.

The trans. didn't look bad. The amsoil does make the shifting smoother than the Honda MTF.

Engine oil, I'm sticking with Honda, until 10,000 miles. Then to Amsoil also.

Since you are an Amsoil fan why didn't you use the Severe Gear 75W-90 in the diff?
