Please clarify as it's still not clear.

The issue, as I understand it is:

While driving in reverse a short distance, the car suddenly stops proceeding in reverse. The shifter is still physically in the reverse selection position, but the car won't continue moving. (Question, what happens if you try to continue in reverse? Does it stall or something?)

If you then move the shifter into a forward gear position, say 1st, you can reverse again. (Questions. Do you actually have to proceed forward before you can reverse again? Is there any correlation between how far you must travel foward with how far you can then travel backwards?)

Or maybe the above is all wrong, and your issue is while reversing, the shifter pops out of reverse position (and hence car stops proceeding rearward by its own power), and you can't physically engage shifter into reverse again unless you engage a forward gear, like 1st, then it allows you to select reverse again? (Question, what happens if you attempt to hold the shifter in reverse while backing up, to prevent it from popping out?)

I found the problem. My front right caliper was touching my rim. I jacked the car up and it appears that the top caliper bolt was missing! also the lower caliper bolt was comming loose. Looks like whomever worked on the braking system last did not torque to spec. Luckily this an easy fix and was able to order OEM bolts through honda dealer for $1.25 EA. Thanks again guys for your feedback.

Wow thats scary! Good thing you found that out now, rather than when something bad happened at speed. Be sure to check the rest of the braking system while you're at it!

Wow. That's frightening. If it was me, before I drove there car any further, I would jack it up, take the wheels off and check every nut and bolt you can get your hands on. Make certain everything is tight. Get a service manual and tighten everything down to the required torque.

And then lift the hood and do the same thing.

Yikes!
