Default troubleshooting my defi gauge install. could really use your help...

finally got around to putting my defi BF gauges in, but it seems i'm having some issues so i'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. i installed the boost and oil pressure gauges

Installation
for power, installed the white wire to the hot for light fuse box, orange to hot when ignition on, red for always hot, and grounded to a local screw.

for turbo sensor, cut the hose leaving the FPR on the right side of the engine bay (i run a comptech sc), put the T, and ran the hose to the defi sensor unit which is mounted below the strut bar location mounts and then ran the wire through the firewall.

oil pressure doesn't matter cuz it won't give a reading atm. info below.

put the turbo sensor on the control unit and oil pressure one as well (even though it's still not hooked up). then fed the wires into the pod to turbo, connecting it to one of the two side by side terminals and out from turbo to oil pressure from the other side by side terminal from turbo to to one of the side by side terminals on oil pressure.

Symptoms
atm, the gauges are not giving me any reading. instead, the warning light gives constant long flashes, which the manual says is a 'wire disconnection.' all gauges do their power up and down series correctly so they're getting power, but it seems not readings from the sensors and/or control unit.

Possible problems
when feeding the wires through the firewall, we took off the connector at the end so all we had to work with were the wires to make it easier. it may be possible that we put the connector on incorrectly. can someone shoot a pic of the back of their control box so i can compare?

we didn't finalize the oil pressure install since we didn't have the right adapter for the engine block. could it be possible that due to how the gauges are daisy chained, it's not feeding the right info to the turbo one as well? the control unit goes from the turbo to oil pressure so that doesn't seem logical since info would first be passed.

wortham, can you take a pic of your wiring to the fuse box?
What do the Defi wiring diagrams say about Key on engine cranking power?

(My Autometer boost gauge doesn't work if wired to a power source with the engine cranking.)

I'm trying to remember how i did mine:

The control unit: The wires should connect to the fuse box with a spade female spade terminal:

Slot 1 - Hot w/ lights -----> white wire
Slot 2 - Always Hot ------> Red wire
Slot 3 - Hot w/ igntion----> orange wire

ground-------> black (find the set of black wires octopused together on a bolt) use a T-tapp

If the you still have a problem: check the connections how you wired up the daisy chain with the gauges:

Each of the sender lines must be directly connected to the control unit

wire from the boost sender -----> control unit (labeled: boost)
wire from the oil sender------> control unit (labeled oil temp or oil pressure --whichever you have)

Back of gauges: chain the oil pressure gauge ----> turbo guage or vice-versa using the small cable: labled here *

[__] *port no used
[__] [__] *here

on the same part [ ] [ ] use the long cable and connect it from oil or boost gauge ----> control unit on port II

not required: but check the jumper settings on the cylner switch on the side of the control unit, it should be on cynder 4

I think that' about does it. I'll confirm it tomorrow on my car

Good luck

Philip D.

I installed my Defi Boost and Oil Temp Gauge last Saturday.
I wired it exactly as swatzn97 described, so far no problems at all.
Oil Temp is working great (used a Greddy Oil Filter Adaptar for installing the sensor).
Boost Sensor is still not installed, because i will get the SC first, which should arrive end next week.

Before i forgot, thanks to swtazn97 for his great help!

Make sure you're plugged into meter output #2. Sounds like the rest of your setup is correct. The flashing warning light means a short or broken wire. Since you cut off then reconnected the connectors to run the wires I would guess the problem is there. Recheck your solder connections. Here's the Defi website incase you haven't found it
Good luck,

i'm thinking the same thing. power's there. all is well for start up and power down procedures. but before i start taking things apart, maybe someone with these gauges could give me some confirmation. i think these pics are going to explain it all. let me know if you see anything off.

what i didn't include were pics underneath of the power supply. i didn't see that as necessary.

and here's a short video of the power up sequence and the error it's giving. it's zeroed and then long flashes on the warning light. according to defi, this means:

[Wire Disconnection Check]
this function reports the wrong wiring and disconnected sensors and wires. The pointer points downward and the WARNING LED flashes.

Gauge Sequence

every now and then, it's helpful to be a computer geek.

The wiring into the control unit looks correct. Did you try unplugging the oil pressure lead from the control unit to see if the boost gauge will work by itself?

The wiring looks connected correctly. Since you have the oil pressure gauge, it will read nothing because the guages doesn't sence oil pressure; as a result, it's giving a constant warning light. (a nice long annoying beep).

You should disconnect the oilpressure gauge from the defi control unit and the daisy chain from the boost gauge until you have the oil sender connected.

Dr. T. has the right idea tri his method if it works then you've solved your problem.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I see that you connected the boost sender line more closely to the fuel pressure regulator. I have mine tee'ed off closer to the intake manifold not sure if it matters. pic will be up shortly.
