Unhappy Trunk well dented up.

So I've noticed on my S that the "tool box" cover wasn't sitting flush with the trunk floor. So I took it out a long with the carpet lining and saw that a good portion of the trunk well was pushed up! So I got in and gave it a couple stomps but it seems like I've cracked some sort of coating(?) Does anyone know what this is? Is it anything important?

Close up.

From the back looking up

Any info would help.
