Default TSB 02-046

...now im confident i can post this.

I noticed the knocking sound from the rear, i assumed it was the differential, and that it was normal. all the threads i read have the same symptoms i have.

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=93664&st=0&

i called keyes honda to do a vehicle history inquiry, and they only came up with the TSB for spark plugs. im having that done tomorrow. i also asked if TSB 02-046 is needed, or has been done on my car. he said no theres no such TSB out for my car and it hasnt been done. but i know the knock is there and suspect it needs TSB 02-046 done.

my question is, how will i convince the dealership it needs to be done? i printed out the images of the paperwork and intend to bring it over tomorrow. is there a way i can get the TSB history on my car?

i just bought the car and i wanna make sure i get all the necessary fixes done to it, will make me sleepy better.

TSB 02-046 has nothing to do with the "pop". The title of TSB 02-046 is "Reverse or 5th Gear Is Diffucult to Select". So you are citing the wrong TSB if you have a knocking sound from the rear.

There is a little blurb, not a part of any TSB, that mentioned re-torquing the rear spindle nut (after applying grease) to eliminate pop or creak from MY2000 to MY2002 S2000s. That may be what you were referring to, but that is NOT any TSB. The best way to convince the dealership that you need something repaired is to show them the problem.

There is no such thing as a "TSB history". TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin, nothing more than that. It is a notice sent by the auto manufacturer to their service departments (and all auto manufacturers have these) to inform them of service procedures when the customer has a particular problem. The service procedure is nothing more than a normal "repair" service (though sometimes it is covered by warranty). So the best thing for you to do is to get the "service history" of the car and see what repairs were done -- some of those repairs may be the results of a TSB procedure, some may not.

Good luck.

Honda sometimes denies any knowledge of such TSB's. Merely hearsay which makes me wonder where TinkFist found the document which details the fix.

TSB's are just mechanic's "advice" to other mechanics. Like white said. Unless you have some type of warranty, TSB's are uesless to you from a cost perspective.

Honda WILL NOT pay for the TSB work (unless you get lucky). A TSB is not something to address a flaw, rather it is an addendum to the service manual. The TSB above IS in the computer at your Honda dealership. Give them your VIN, and you can get a list of all TSB's related to your car. BTW, since TSB's are public knowledge, any reputable shop should have the list as well.

As I said before, I'm not sure that the little blurb about the rear axle pop is part of any TSB. I have not seen "TSB 011201", if anyone has it, please post it up. The little blurb came from another document which was not cited, but it looked like a list of general misc. service items on various Honda models:
