Default Turbo S2000 transmission problems

Hello everyone, I recently had to tow my S2000 home from Cali after a small weekend trip. I had just ran against my buddy in a MKV Supra, car was running good and no mechanical issues whatsoever (I sat behind the Supra the entire way through the pull) and we stopped at a gas station to cool the cars off afterwards. Drove off about 20 minutes, had to turn around to the same area again as I had forgotten something at his house, when the car just starts to go haywire in the RPMs and I was not making any power by any means. It felt like the clutch was slipping hard to the point where it was tough for the tranny to grab onto anything. Checked everything, no leaks, no pops, no grinds, literally nothing that can be seen or heard by the naked eye. Come next morning, I was worried so I was driving up and down the street trying to figure out what was going on to no avail. The same problem was still occurring, and I am also going uphill and downhill. On the 3rd U-Turn, going up the hill back to the hotel, the car just would not move, kangarooing everywhere with the RPMs when I suddenly smelt a super pungent smell and looked over to see smoke coming from under the car. Did not hear any snaps, pops, chinks, anything at all, but I could not get anything to catch in any gear. 1st-6th all gave 0 movement to the car, but the RPMs were going up as I pressed the gas. Stopped by the nearest gas station and proceeded to check things out again, nothing still. I start the car, car starts fine, idles fine, when all of a sudden I notice that I am in 1st gear after starting the car and trying to move it to no avail, to having my foot off the clutch, in 1st gear and it was idling. Proceeded to shift to 2nd and let go of clutch, still just idling. Put the car in reverse, still idling. Then I also noticed that I was able to shift into gear without even having to clutch in. I am worried that I need a tranny at this point, but I was speaking to a couple of buddies and they said that my clutch just ended up going out. This is my first S2000 and so I am still fairly new at trying to learn the platform, so do go easy on me please if I ****ed up anything in a really stupid way. Thank you for taking the time to respond and happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Smells like a blown clutch to me. Hopefully nothing more serious.

Thank you for the response. I ordered a new clutch immediately as soon as I spoke with those buddies of mine. I had a competition clutch stage 4 with unknown flywheel previously as I have not had a chance to pull the transmission yet. I ended up ordering the same clutch and getting an ACT Prolite flywheel to replace what was in there. Should I order a throw-out bearing as well? It was not making any noises previously and even after the situation had happened, it wasn't doing anything weird.

Think that you may want to consider an OEM disc.

Since you're in there replace the throw out bearing.

If the clutch isn't making contact you can put the car in any gear at anytime regardless of the engine state -- doesn't go anywhere though.

Not the pressure plate. I'm thinking of the clutch disc. Still not good enough?

Thanks!
