Default Turn Signal Problem - Broken Relay?

Hello everybody, this is my first official post here! And I'm sorry to say that it's a post requesting help with a problem

I've been reading s2ki for over 2 years now and just purchased my first s2000 last Friday. It's a 2000 Silverstone that's been sprayed primer white. The body is in pretty rough shape, but everything else is perfect. It's got the ap2 drivetrain with an engine that only has 13k on it! I'm really excited about owning it and am glad to finally be an "official" member here (I've been saving for all 2 years for this car)

The problem I'm having:

I was driving down the freeway today and went to turn the turn signal on to change lanes and all of a sudden, when I flip the lever (push the post down to have it turn left) nothing happens. The green light on the cluster doesn't come on, and there isn't that "clicking" sound either. I checked the right turn signal...same thing. On the outside nothing happens either.

When I activate/deactivate my alarm though, the turn signals blink... as far as I know the hazards work, but I haven't checked them for sure. I'll do that when I leave work. The strange thing is though, when I was turning out of a parking lot, it worked fine then not 5 minutes later it didn't. Very odd.

Any suggestions as to what could have caused this?

Thanks guys, and like I said I'm super stoked to be here!

not very good with this kind of stuff, maybe you need more blinker fluid

Haha, that was... the office? Or wait...no! That was ATHF, FTW!! I loved that episode.

I'll try that right after I drink from the slushy machine, i.e. radiator coolant.

It sounds like your turn signal flasher, or relay isn't working right. It could be a bad relay, or maybe it's a bad ground.

The relay is located in the under-dash fuse box. It's that big square relay to the left of the fuses. I suggest you pull it out and check the terminals. If they look fine, check for continuity between the terminals. If it looks fine, check to see if you are getting current to this relay when you activate the turn signal.

Edit: On second thought, it can't be the flasher, since your hazard lights are working. According to the wiring diagram, the only thing it could be is the turn signal lever itself, or the wires leading from the flasher to the turn signal. The connector for the turn signal switch has a terminal labeled "10". This comes in as a black/red wire. This should have power when power is on. If you have power coming in from this terminal, it is likely the turn signal lever itself.

So, does that mean that our cars only have one flasher relay? I know a lot of cars have 2 , one for the turn signals and a second for hazards. S's aren't like that?

How can I check the terminal? Is this in the fuse box? If so, where is the fuse box?

If it does turn out to be the flash lever....how should I proceed?

Thanks so much!!

The S only has one flasher relay, called the Turn Signal/Hazard Relay. When looking at the schematic, I noticed that there is a fuse that runs the turn signals, but the hazard lights don't operate through that fuse. Check #7 fuse under the dash. If that's blown, you found your problem. It's a 7.5 amp fuse.

Slalom, thanks a bunch man. That was the culprit. It's 11pm here so to late to grab a fuse, but that one was def. blown. I'm going to try and stop by o'reilly's in the morning.

Can you tell me what the fuse goes to that is on the opposite row, 8th one down (this is also a 7.5amp).

Thanks for your help!

That fuse powers the heater control panel, the A/C Clutch relay, the blower motor relay, the condenser fan & radiator fan relays, and the recirculation control motor. If you're looking for a fuse to steal from somewhere else, that's not a good one.

You could borrow fuse #13 (left row, top fuse), since it just runs your intermittent windshield wiper circuit. You can also check for fuses 10, 11, 14, 15, & 16, since these fuses aren't being used (at least not on AP1 vehicles).

I went to Advance this morning before school. Bought the 7.5amp fuses, popped one in and bam! I was good to go Thanks for the help slalom.

Now all I have to figure out is how to make it not flash double time (I have the ap2 tailight conversion).
I'm working on it though
