I've used the search, feature, as well as google.. and praying.. lol but i cant seem to find a definite answer.

i am unable to fill up gas.. The gas pump automatically kicks off after ever .5 gallon or so. It makes it extremely fustrating on how i would constantly need to pump the nozzle to fill up.

No idea where to start, i've visually inspected the fuel neck and it seems fine, i used air to blow the system and it doesnt seem clogged. same with the vent line connected. I've swapped out the One way valve on one of the vent lines and still no hope. I have no CEL, since im running the AEM EMS system. the car runs and drives fine, it just doent want to properly take in gas...


i have a spare tank i can use for testing however i dont have any access to actually removing and replacing the tank. Im tracing all the lines which leads to a the fuel vent valve (right next to the fuel pump) however i cant find any info on that valve (non on google, mitchell or alldata)

anyone with some insight on how to diagnose this problem and fix it. my second assumption other than the fuel vent valve is the EVap cansister and evap vent soloenid. Unsure if it went bad or not but since im running AEM EMS. is the evap system even used?

 

Most cars have a closed relief circuit of hoses to compensate for pressure build-up in the tank. When filling-up, or evaporation of gas under heat. Also, to compensate for vacuum formed as gas is used-up. These go to the engine, so that unburnt fumes are not vented to the atmosphere.

There are hoses and an EVAP type canister of activated charcoal --- coming off the tank. Prolly one of these lines are plugged up or the canister is plugged.

Just peel back the rubber stopper thing on the gas pump so the fumes can escape. So, put the gas nozzle like normal, fill it up, and use your other hand to slightly tug on the rubber part of the nozzle so air can escape. Sort of what you have to do to fill up one of those small red gas containers. It might smell a bit, so take deep breaths of fumes if you want, or not if health is important. lol.

One of my cars had this issue (usually when it was warm). I never tried to diagnose it, I just peeled the rubber piece back. Warning, do not do this near a spark or flame as gasoline is very volatile

 

Could be a clogged or stuck closed Evap vent valve. If its not venting, as you fill up the tank, pressure builds and kicks off the pump. Possibly the pellets of charcoal from within the canister have entered the evap system and our stopping the system from venting properly.

 

Assuming you tried different pumps. Also does this only happen when you run the tank fairly low?

 

did you ever figure this out? i have the same issue
