Default Using current gaskets with aftermarket exhaust?

Do I need to order new OEM exhaust gaskets to use with aftermarket exhausts? I often see people inquiring about getting new OEM gaskets, but can't I simply use the gaskets currently on my car for use with an aftermarket exhaust? Any downside to this?

Thanks!

The used ones I'm getting do not come with new gaskets. It's a complete cat-back exhaust. Any risks/issues with using the current gaskets?

you should be fine on the exhaust end of the deal. but if you do replace the header for whatever reason, you need a new donut and prob best to get a new gasket for where it mounts on the engine as well. you may be able to use the old one, but it's possible you'll damage it upon removal.

Actually the OEM exhaust gasket is a donut gasket and will not work/fit an aftermarket exhaust.
Check it out: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...y5=EXHAUST+PIPE
It's number 11 in the diagram. You'll have to buy an aftermarket exhaust gasket. I found this out the hard way when I went to the parts dept and asked for an exhaust gasket and they gave me a donut one. You'll be fine running without a gasket.

Wow, such conflicting facts out there... some say (from experience) that the OEM gasket works with aftermarket exhausts, and others say it doesn't. Guess I'll find out for sure when I do the install.

Or maybe I'll get the gasket maker tubes from an auto parts store? Anyone have any experience with those?

If I don't use a gasket, do I just tighten down really tight?

Thanks for all the replies.

When you take out the OEM exhaust you'll see there's a groove in the exhaust flange in which the dnout gasket sits, an aftermarket exhaust won't have that groove so you'll have a gap. My invidia exhaust came with a flat metal gasket shaped like the back of the cat.

You shouldn't tighten them down more then what is recommended, you could strip the bolts. The manual states 25lbs/ft of torque.
