Default Using HIDs all the time - expensive?

i personally like to be seen good by others thus turning headlights all the time.

is doing so with S can cost me a lot?

a pal said me that it "wears out" lamps, ballast, ignitors and god knows what else - but all quite expensive parts.

what do you reckon?

I do the same thing. I've got an 07 which have DRLs but I prefer the brightness of the HIDs. I'm interested in the answer as well.

it will take you a LONG time to wear in some of those parts that your friend is warning you about wearing out...

I'm just guessing, but I'm pretty sure that there are alot more expensive parts that will wear out before your HIDs; so, I wouldn't worry about it.

Not only that, but you get into a slippery slope situation, where if you are worried about using your lights because of wear, what next? Your radio? Your turn signals? Your tires? Your transmission, clutch, engine... might as well lock the car up in a time capsule.

I've got over 130k on my car. Almost all are with the headlights on.
I have only had to replace the two bottom front running lights.

your headlights are going to be OK.

worst thing you can do with headlights (or any bulb for that matter) is turn it on and off. the thermal strain generated by heating up the bulb is what makes it fail.

I run my headlights 24/7 as my 02 is a US car which was imported to Canada, they act like my drls, I've got a relay tapped into a 12 v source and the lighting wire, it works pretty slick. I'm not worried about wear and tear, HID's last a long time. I've picked up a spare set of ballasts for the future, bulbs are easy to come by anytime, no biggie.

Running an S2000 in Canada without daytime lights is dangerous, before I wired these up I had people cutting in front of me all the time, a silver car doesnt' help either. Things have been nice and safe since I wired up the lights.

Jesus hates your search skillz

Longevity

The average service life of an HID lamp is 2000 hours, compared to between 450 and 1000 hours for a halogen lamp.[32]

All true... I have mine on every day. Only had to replace the bottom running lights. BUT look closely directly in front of the hid. IDK about ap2's but ap1's can get a bubble from the heat of the bulb.
