Default V-TEC question

I just got my car broken in two days ago, so I finally got to try V-TEC. There was a noticeable difference in power and engine sound, but it wasn't drastic. How much of a difference should there be? I was expecting a little more, but maybe my expectations were too high.

First off- it is vtec and not V-tech. It isn't like a turbo or supercharger, but there is a nice surge in power and increase in sound. It will also get better as you rack up miles on you car. Even though you are past the rec'd mileage for that activity, your engine is truly far from being broken in. My car has 22k miles now, and it feels much more alive and spunky as the miles accumulate. Just keep driving and the feel will get better.
Also- if you think the vtec difference is not noticeable in an S2000, go drive a Civic or Accord with vtec; I know you won't feel much difference there. I know I didn't.

try rolling at a low rpm (like 2-3k rpm) and then gun it. you should be able to tell a difference once it kick in

and since you're just out of "break in" check your oil level and make sure it's full. you will burn some oil during break in.

No one else seemed to address this...
You have an AP2 which has a really smooth VTEC transition compared to other traditional VTEC cars...
The average person doesn't like feeling a big jump of power like that so Honda started smoothing out the engagement. That's why all other Honda's have i-VTEC too...

I think that's it. The transition is very smooth and I was looking for a sudden jump. Thanks for the info everyone.

also it was so anticipated that when it finally happened, you were like oh, thats all.. it was so short, and all my friends made such a big deal about it, and in just a second it was over

well i'd still like to try it again, maybe on a different car next time....

you were fine until the part about the average person not liking the jump, and that being the reason for i-vtec.

that's just not true.

anyway, floor it...and the vtec will be more pronounced.

I recommend a second gear, or third gear, pull. First gear VTEC goes by way too quickly.
