Does anyone know how hard it is to tune the VAFC by APEX'i ? How much does it cost with harness unit and can a door be bought where it sits in the radio door?
Please pm me pics and reply.

Thanks So Much
Eric

To tune a VAFC you would need a Dyno, and someone how knows what he/she is doing.

The VAFC 1 goes for abotu 250-300 new, and the wiring harness goes for about 150 new. A new unit, the VAFC II has just come out, It lets you tune a little more than the VAFC I did, and this unit goes for around 300-350 new.

The radio door that is precut for the VAFC to fit was a custom job done by someone on this board (Cyber Logic I think), I think the only way to get one now is by buying it off someone used.

Actually, the V-AFC should be the 1st mod, since it makes the MOST difference on a stock motor. With a perfect tune, you can get 10 RWHP just by adding a V-AFC to a stock setup. Adding a V-AFC after an I/H/E might only get an additional 5 RWHP. The reason is because the V-AFC is used to lean out the fuel mixture to the optimum AFR. The I/H/E will do some of this leaning as well, so the V-AFC will be less beneficial.

For example, if your stock AFR at 8500 RPMs is 11.5, then you could probably gain 10 RWHP by leaning it out with a V-AFC to 13.5. An I/H/E might raise the stock AFR to 12.5 without the V-AFC, so you might only gain 5 RWHP from leaning it further to 13.5 with a V-AFC. I use peak as an example, but this is really not where the most gains are achieved with the V-AFC. I gained most of my power at midrange and redline.

BTW, the V-AFC is only as good as its tuner. I suggest finding a "V-AFC Artist" with a wideband sensor (ie. Ultimate Lurker). A V-AFC with a $100 crappy tune is worthless. If you can get a perfect tune for $150, it will be the biggest bang for the buck you can get without a Turbo or SC.
