Default VAFC idle problem!

I just put in some number I found on the board. Now my car idles so low that it sometimes stalls itself out. What numbers do I have to play with to get everything running good? Or should I just suck it up and get it tuned?

Yes, get it tuned. Every car is different you can't just plug in numbers you found off the internet and expect them to be correct for your vehicle.

turbo, you seem to live close to me. You know of any good tunning shops? How much $$ does it usually cost?

I'm having a similar problem as well -- but only when I go into neutral and the revs drop all the way down to the stalling point (car starts shaking...) -- In fact, yesterday it stalled twice!

this is most likely NOT a VAFC problem. When you are idling, the ECU adjusts fuel trim to override any setting you may have made. Also, this problem has been reported on dozens of unmodified cars.

Assuming you can, pull the VAFC out. Check the idle. You might have had the problem and the VAFC just exagerated it.

Tap the gas. The RPMs should jump then glide back to 1000. When I had this problem, it would barely jump and then dive to 500ish RPMs. Similar to Shamu's problem.

Stalling during idle would indicate to me that the mixture is too rich.. is there a bunch of black smoke out of the exhaust during idle?

Not in my situation...but during hard accel. in first gear, I do see some black smoke -- not an immense amount, but it's there.

black smoke would indicate that you're running too rich, white/grey smoke indicates too lean (you can see it inside your exhaust tips that it's grey) and blue smoke indicates that you're leaking oil.

Have fun.

Chris

PS-You mis-quoted me with the "mixture is too right" .. I mean.. that just doesn't make sensE!
