Default Valve cover stuck on

I went to do a valve adjustment the other day and disconnected every thing off the valve cover but I couldnt get it off. No matter how hard I tugged it wouldn't budge. I placed a screw driver between the head and cover and it moved a little bit but couldnt get any leverage to pull it off.

Any one have any ideas?

You have to give it a good shake side to side. Use the oil filler hole to get some grip.

Yeah can be a pain to pull off especially if it hasn't been removed for a long time. Oil filler hole definitely helps to get a good grip. I had to use a screw driver to pry it off the first time I pulled it off though.

mine was like that, I couldn't believe how tight it can be with nothing holding it in place. I had a hell of a time. I used a rubber mallet on the front corners to shake it back and forth, protecting the paint with cloth towels, and used a wood paint mixing stick to pry it off once I could get it underneath. It was a bitch. I have since taken it off a couple more times with ease, it was just the first one that was trouble.

and be very careful putting that valve cover back on.

i had no clue why there was smoke coming out of my engine after i did my valve adjustment. come to find out, the gasket was cut by the camshaft gears in the back toward the firewall.

had to order another gasket because of that. almost 30 bucks for them things.

I did that and nothing. the whole motor just moved a little lol.

someone else i know recommended the wood and hammer on the side of the head. I'll give that a try later in the week when I'm off.

btw, funkemonke, the gaskets are only 20 not 30. I was planing on replacing it anyways.

you got five bolts off, two connectors, wire harness out the way, and tried a screw driver in between head and valve cover and still could'nt get it off?
you need to put some elbow grease in it and it will come off.

bought my car with 50K on it, no work done on VC as far as I can tell, it came off with a couple taps and a screwdriver. check all your bolts ONE MORE TIME, just in case.

hit the corners with a mallet - not HARD but SHARP. aluminum will break if you whack it too hard. sharp raps always works best to jar metal loose.

Remove the 5 chrome washers, and the rubber seals under them. The cover will lift right off.
