valves?
I have a ticking comming from the motor I figured it needed a valve adj. so I took it to the shop and they mdae the adj. they also said they think I bent a valve. I have missed 2nd gear a few times cound this bend a valve, or did I throw the timing off. I ran the car open header one time would a burnt valve be ticking?

Running it to extreme temperatures with an open header then having it cool too quickly with an Icy wind could theoretically cause exhaust valve warpage. In reality I doubt it.
Why do they say you bent a valve? Is it running poorly, missing, poor compression or failed leakdown test? More info would be helpful.

Dave,
In his statement "sound as if it has a cam" is a colloquialism referring to lope at idle that is very pronounced like the old Corvette Duntoff cams and infers a high performance cam.
