Default Very Loud Bang

I was wondering if anyone has had this experience before. I was just driving into work this morning on the freeway at about 60 mph. and BANG. Sounded like someone dropped a large rock form an overpass and smashed into the trunk of the car. Anyway, I couldn't find anything amiss from looking under and around the car, but I didn't sound good. Has anyone had this happen? I don't think I ran over anything and there were no cars around me when this happened. At first I thought it could have been another car's backfire, but It sounded like it was coming from my car. When I take my car to the dealer later to have it checked out I want to be able to have any info for them that might help me find out if anything is wrong. Thanks for any help. -Chris.

Nope car would be in the middle of the road or parked at the side shortly there after if it blew up!

Ya, that was my first thought, and I was waiting for the car to have no power to the wheels, but it drove the rest of the way to work, about 5 more miles and it seems fine. I know it seems that I probably just kicked something up form the road and hit under the car, but this sounded like something broke, or something was under pressure and just gave out.

I have had my car back fire loud as hell. When it was stock. Where you on the gas and then off what were you doing to the gas pedal when it happened?

I think I was at a constant speed when it happened. I may have been modulating the gas a little, but nothing extreme. Except for a STB my car is still full stock. When your car backfired, did you feel any thing, or did it just make the sound. A backfire would explain it, but it didn't "feel" like a backfire. With the crap gas we have in California I wouldn't be surprised if it was a backfire. Anyway, I haven't taken my car to the dealer to have it checked out, And it hasn't happened again. It may have been somethingthing in the road that hit the right sport under the car.

Happened to me a year or two ago on a hot summer day while driving on the freeway. I thought someone threw a freakin' boulder at the car, got all freaked out, then it did it again a few seconds later. Hasn't done it since. I think it's just a backfire.
