Default vibration/noise on overrun

We get a rattling noise from underside when decelerating - louder with the roof open so sounds to be coming from underneath. First guesses are rattling / loose exhaust or possibly the cat rattling. Have checked and everything seems tight under there. Go down a hill, take your foot off the throttle and it sounds as if the engine moves on the mountings and pushes the exhaust, perhaps drive train which starts the noise, there is also a vibration through the car. 75000 miles Bought the car only two weeks ago and noticed it the day after we brought it home. Doesn't sound terminal, just annoying - any ideas anyone?

Sounds like exactly what I have (see my thread some 3 or 4 further down at the time of posting). Unfortunately, I won't be taking it to grease monkeys this month after all, since at the end of the month, they'll change plugs and fit new brakes, but I'll try to remember to look up this thread when I've solved it, and see what I can pass on to you that might help.

By the way, a few people with cars about that age (in terms of mileage), have found their engine mounts almost worn through. A ripple wnet throught he Greek owners forum a few months ago, when one of our guys replaced his and they were literally dust, only surface tension was holding them together! Many members went checked theirs out, and quite a few were found to need replacing, so definitely worth checking that, if your first instinct is the mounts.

Do you have a link to your thread on this?

I too have this, I thought it was a heat shield. I cannot easily determine if my mounts are blown.

Anyone got a pic of a good and bad mount for us?

I'm sorry I can't find it. Sadly this forum does not possess the ability to search in the greek language. On the bright side, you don't really need comparison pics. The bad ones fell apart in his hand. Literally.

it sounds like you're getting the infamous rattling from your transmission. when you get the rattling and acelerate does the noise go away? if yes then the problem is being cause by " gear backlash in the transmission" Though, it will not harm your car it is repairable.

Here's the link https://www.s2ki.com/stor/library/TSB/A00-054/index.htm

EDIT- by the way mine does that too. i guess i'm use to the s2000 being a nousy car.

This is also true.. You might want to check your engine mounts as it is not safe driven with beat up mounts.

Am I reading this correctly? Only applies to 00-01? I have an 04 and get this noise.

If i recall correctly, it applies to all s2k's. don't hold me to it though.

now about your engine mounts, you usually find out they're no good unintentially. lets say for ex: when you're replacing your cluth you have to lift your engine a bit, if you have bad mounts they'll just fall to pieces. if you have bad mounts you would be able to hear rattling when you start your car.

I hear a rattle when I start the car. Figured it was the same. I never got a rattle from the TL, when it had a broken mount.

So now to find the broken mount(s) and see about this tranny work.
Thanks
