Default Vibration from the rear during acceleration

My car has been experiencing a vibration during acceleration for the past month. I have read all the CV pitting threads, but my issue seems to be a little different. At first I thought it was a bad axle, because the rear passenger axle had been replaced by a Napa axle over a year ago. I bought a used oem axle with low mileage on it and I replaced the Napa axle. At first things seemed to be better, but after a week of driving the vibration came back. There are a couple of possibilities at this point. It is possible that the driver side axle has gone bad and was the problem to begin with, or the vibration is coming from someplace other then the axles.

There is one thing about my symptoms that is different then what other people have described. I have noticed that the vibration is far worse when I have a passenger in the car. Is that a normal symptom related to issues with the axle/s? Without a passenger the vibration is still present during acceleration, but it is not nearly as strong. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated?

David

I say its the drivers side axle. It is usually always the first to go.

Dont buy a new one, swap the CV buckets from side to side.

food for thought

any extra weight will put more load on that wheel/bearing/axle,etc and also change the suspension geometry as well. does it make any noise like a wheel bearing? are the tires balanced, does it occur at a single rpm or road speed?

I will try and do the swap and see if that takes care of the vibration. I have ruled out the tires because I have put on two different sets of wheels and tires and the same symptoms have resulted. Both bearings have been changed fairly recently so I doubt those would be the problem. The vibration starts around 30 and continues until around 70 or so. When I let off the accelerator the vibration stops. This sounds like an issue with the CV buckets. I replaced the passenger side because that is where I felt the vibration coming from, and that axle was a NAPA replacement. My guesstimate was most likely wrong.

The change in geometry with the added weight makes sense. The reason why I asked about this situation specifically is because no one in prior posts had mentioned that added weight created a stronger vibration during acceleration.

If I do the CV swap and the vibration is still present, what other areas could be giving me this problem. Could it be an issue with the drives shaft or differential?

Hey jdmegtim. Read this dyi for an explanation of what we are talking about. Are you experiencing similar symptoms?
