Default Vortech vs Comptech Installations

Are these kits truly bolt on?

I would like to know if any modification is done after receiving the kit, especially for MY04-05 models... This way I can decide which to pick, tell whether the shop is ripping me off, any unexpected procedures (like having to buy special order tools, parts, etc.) or if it is truly bolt-on I could do it myself.

I really would like to go Vortech, as i've had previous experience with their product and they have good customer service.

The Comptech is bolt on. The Vortech requires you to tap the oil pan.

Ah, that's no big deal... I was thinking more went into the Vortech... I've had a guy had a bad timing device from the factory but I'd go with Vortech...

I agree, but the first line fo this thread is "Are these kits truly bolt on?" and IMNSHO, having to pull the pan, drill and tap makes the Vortech just outside the realm of "bolt on".

I wonder why vortech recommends oil pan drilling rather returning oil to the lowest point of the oil pan

Vortech do it that way because it is the 'better' way of doing it. Whether it's required or not can be seen by the difference in the ratio of lubrication related failures to sales for Comptech and Vortech kits respectively.

As there seems to be very little occurence for either I would suggest that using the 'better' method is unnecessary.
