Default Vortech w/out Timing Box??

Has anyone ran a Vortech without the timing box installed? What else does this box control?

Comptech does not even come with one, I'm wondering how imperative this unit is to the Vortech. I have a 2003 and there is no application....yet.

The unit also is a voltage clamp for the MAP sensor signal. Running the car without the black box attached would be a horrible idea.

but if u were to put the Comptech map boost blocker, it should be okay, right?

I'm looking for a way to get supercharged since there is no 2003 vortech black box yet.

You wouldn't want to run the kit without the timing control, they obviously put it in there for a reason. I haven't heard of a reason why the Vortech box would not work with an '03...what is the reason behind that? If you installed a Greddy eManage you could clamp the voltage, control timing, control VTEC, and fuel for about $600.

Vortech actually has 2 boxes. One is to clamp the map voltage. The other is to retard timing as you increase boost.

You need the map voltage clamp otherwise you'll set DTC's.

Running without timing box increases chance of detonation. If you run high octane fuel, you may get by without it, but I won't chance it.

Really? Any reason why it's two boxes and not one? At first I thought location but both set of wires could be tapped by the ECU, so that can't (?) be it.

i figure it might be okay if since the Comptech does not have timing control and they run similar boost.

tell me why i am not correct.

thanks

2 boxes probably because it was outsourced to different companies. I would of rather wired up only one box....

If your interested click on to Superchargers on line. The last time I looked Vortech was looking for a MY 2003 S2000 to work out the logistics of a new box.Maybe they would throw in a S/c kit for free for your trouble.Goodluck!

The Vortech kit runs a higher boost pulley compared to the comptech kit. I would not run without the timing box control since people have experienced mild detonation at high rpms even while utilizing the box.
