hey! check this out and tell me what your collective wisdom thinks about this one:

28,000 on a '05. vtec always works until yesterday. i took it into the dealership to have the timing chain tensioner replaced under warranty. so, they do the job and off i go, but late at night, i go for a little vtec rush and get nothing. the noticeable 'giddy up' is gone! now, replacing a tct is a quick job so i wonder what the hell could've triggered vtec taking a vacation. i'm an idiot when it comes to mechanical issues, so i'm all ears (eyes). thanks.

 

check engine oil level. was the engine warmed up when you tried to vtec?

 

yes, oil is only one mark down (vtec has had no problem with that before) and engine was fully warmed up. are there any wires in the area that the tech could have disconnected/pulled?

 

vtec solenoid.

 

the solenoid wires are near the tct?

 

Yes...I bet they did not reconnect the VTEC solenoid. The plug is directly above the TCT.

 

i've no doubt that you are right about the solenoid. however, it appears that all wiring is connected. the main connection appears to be at the end of the solenoid, a large black rubber piece, correct?

btw, what is the larger tubing beneath the solenoid and tct? it connects to the block and has a soft rubber head?

 

You might try to unplug the solenoid cable and plug it back in.

Immediately below the TCT is a ground wire that goes up to the coil pack wiring harness. The spot where it screws into the block has a rubber cover that looks like a nipple.

car is still at the dealership. this is a nightmare. no cel and they say vtec is kicking in. this is b.s. when i brought it in five days ago the vtec kick was hard; the car stood up; now i feel nothing as it goes over 6000 rpm. i told them to reset the ecu and check the solenoid filter. any other ideas?
