Default VTEC for long periods

Couldn't find anything about this with the search, so I'll ask here: Is it harmful to the engine to keep the car in VTEC (say around 6500-7000 RPM) for a long period of time (around 10 minutes)? I imagine track drivers try to stay in VTEC as long as possible, but track drivers also do a lot more maintenence than I do...

Well, you kinda covered it. If your gonna maintain high RPM's for extended periods, you must also maintain/service your fluids much more often.

The car can handle it, and does.

Just take good care of it before and after, and you should be fine.

Rev that puppy!!!!

We recently ran 90 laps at a track day (most of 7 hours seat time), with the car resting in the pits every so often. By the end of the day, the clutch was a sponge and the brake pedal was mush. Got it home.......changed all the fluids......and good as ever.

What an amazing little car.

These cars are a waste if you don't rev them!

one of the main reasons why the european s2000's were eligible for the oil jet bolt recall was b/c they are often run at higher rpm than here in the states(for example the autobahn) and the new 4-hole oil jet bolt helps lubricate the engine more efficiently than the previous 2-hole design.

in the states, the mid 02 + s2000's have the new oil jet bolts.

Driving fast on the Autobahn doesn't put the car into the severe driving conditions either. Standard conditions EU oil change intervals are 15.000km. I do it every 7500km anyway.

I did a trip from Switzerland to Cologne with around 3 hours of VTEC above 7000rpm in the dead of the night. Well, dead except for the exhaust roar!

I've done over 30 track days with the car as well. No engine problems after 90.000km. Hope it lasts.
