vtec not working sometimes

Default vtec not working sometimes

on two occasions i have pulled out of a junction and vtec in first hasnt come in and sounds a bit like a grinding (i thought i had hit the limmiter) and then realised was only a 6,000rpm. but it was fine for the rest of the journy. any info please?

Make sure the car is warmed up at least 2 bars and check the oil level on both sides of the dipstick

Yes do that! A few times i forgot to warm it up when I'm in a rush and hit the 6-7k limiter flooring it for my first vtec of the day.

thanks people just checking no big. it was cold was trying to merge into busy traffic

Also remove the vtec solenoid and see if the screen is clogged with junk

If no pressure gets to the solenoid it won't work correctly.
