Default Vtec Problem

hey guys, my s2k has 71k miles on it, and i usually don't ride it that hard. I've done all of the scheduled maintenance and i change the oil every 3k miles, etc.... but when i put my car in vtec the other day, it seemed to delay a bit, and wasn't as strong....like it was trying but couldn't. I checked the oil, and it was full and clean. Any suggestions? Also, I had a 00 ITR and it did the same thing before i sold it.

It's possible that some part of the VTEC solenoid mechanism needs attention.....
Bad pressure switch? Clogged filter screen?

When the Computer (PCM) see's a malfunctioning VTEC system, it stores a P1259, and illuminates the check engine light. Do you have a light?

I can assume you know that the engine has to be warmed up before the VTEC will operate.

There are many possibilites than can cause this DTC.
Here's the most common:
Low oil level
Bad VTEC pressure switch
Bad VTEC Solenoid
Clogged VTEC spool valve inlet screen
Stuck VTEC spool valve

Basically, the PCM looks for 2 inputs, an on signal from the Solenoid, and a off signal from the switch. If those 2 inputs are ever both on, or both off, the DTC sets.
