All of a sudden the VTEC stopped working today. The car revs to 9k but there is no distinct sound or that VTEC kick that I usally feel and hear. My oil level is good, and I just changed it 1000 miles ago. My car is 100% stock, the air filter is clean. Valve adjustment is good because it was done about 5000 miles ago. VTEC was working in the morning, I came home went out to dinner with some friends and thats when I noticed that VTEC wasn't working. I don't seem to notice any power loss. I have not messed with the engine. I did the AP2 retainer swap and that was about 5000 miles ago and it was done by a good mechanic. I have no CEL's, So I'm at a loss here. Also the engine was properly warmed up. Where should I start the trouble shoot? The only thing I haven't done is to reset the ECU. Thanks fellas!

 

 

check your vtec solenoid screen filter. maybe your mechanic unplug a wire or so and forgot to connect it back.

 

No, he did the work about 5k miles ago and I had no problem till today. So I doubt he did anything wrong. I checked the VTEC solenoid filter a while back and it was clean.

 

Check your oil level again. 1000 miles ago you might be a full quart low.

Vtec is driven by oil pressure and the solenoid. This is where you start.

However, if you're telling us the power feels the same, I'm confused. The cross over at peak revs is noticeable.

 

I'll bet a MAP whack will fix it.

Tap lightly on the map sensor with a screwdriver handle for 20 seconds while lightly revving the engine.

 

Okay thanks i'll try that. My oil level is good I check it every 2-3 days in the mornings.

Sound and that small vtec kick. It would just get loud.
