Default VTEC Question

I've always felt my VTEC engage ... even after my modifications and I had no problems and the engagement has always been noticeable. The last couple of days, the car has not been "surging" into VTEC like it used to. At WOT, the RPMS "seem" to just rise without VTEC engaging. Does this sound like a case of low oil? Would that cause VTEC to not engage or is it likely a more serious problem?

BTW, I have not messed with my VFAC settings or anything ... the surge is just gone!

Sounds like your oil is a little bit low...check it and report back immediately!

VTEC point will trigger based upon throttle position and other variables.

you might want to take it to the dealer and get a checkup. but first check your engine oil first.

Most Vtec engienes will not engage if the proper operating temperature is not reached.

I already knew this, that's why I tried VTECing after my engine was very warmed up.

dude don't feel bad i have the same problem. I'm bone stock with 3500 miles and the vtec surge is gone. I plan on changing the oil at 4000 miles maybe that will help, my car still feels fast above 6rpms just no surge, and yes my oil is topped off. I think my car has the flu , although the surge does feel like it is coming back a little bit, hopefully after i install the mugen radiator, radiator cap, thermostat, fan switch, and run mugen ecu full time the car will get better, i also plan on installing a new map sensor when i get the first oil change done. Please keep us up to date on the situation, maybe you will find a fix.

UPDATE:

Well the oil level looked high enough ... but I decided to buy some more Mobil 1 and I proceeded to top of the oil all the way. I added about half a quart and the reading on the dipstick was at the "full" mark.

Enough suspense .... it worked!!! The surge is back! God I missed that jolting VTEC surge. I find this interesting because my vtec was not engaging or something ... even though there WAS enough oil. I guess the level was too low though? Anyway, I guess I'll have to top off the engine oil always now. Thanks for your advice/suggestions guys.

The manual says that you should read both sides of the stick and go with the lower one. But I'm sure you already knew that
